Time Under Tension is the aptly named debut release from Anthony Jimenez, an artist/ DJ who has really evolved his craft since relocating to Detroit in 2012 where his dark, driving techno sets have been a feature of Blank Code events and podcasts. In the opening track, Eternal, the only percussion you will hear is the occasional clang of metal on metal being churned through effects designed to exploit hidden resonant harmonics. Layered dissonant synths create a thick drone that carries through the track, creating some real head bending textures. Dissonance brings a heavy atmosphere that really stands out against it's straightforward kick and minimal percussion. Sharp stabs mutate as they echo into each other and trail off into the darkness. Conflict balances a funky kick with on point hats and haunting synths that resonate from background to foreground as heavily reverberated bursts of noise get stuck in the track's dubby delay line.

Hypertrophy is Detroit style Techno at it's finest. A warehouse-worthy kick and hats on the ups support the ring modulated percussion that forms the track's loopy hook, with crunchy claps coming in only when needed. Guaranteed to bring energy to any atmosphere. Non Compliant is an intense atmosphere builder. Textural peaks and valleys are held together by driving techno rhythms and a deep low kick that will challenge any subwoofer. Rounding out the EP is Sinaloa, which uses a rhythmic hard hitting kick to bring in haunting sounds and voices. Well programmed effects create poly-rhythms that melt into the atmosphere of the track. Great for the dancefloor or a night drive through the city.
